"Mayor for a Day" essay winners recognized at City Commission

IMG_9089Congratulations to this year’s “Mayor for a Day” essay winners - Audrey and Merry!

Each spring, the North Dakota League of Cities sponsors a statewide “If I Were Mayor” essay contest for 3rd and 7th graders to encourage young people to think about public service and future community leadership.

Almost 100 submissions were received from the Williston area and Mayor Howard Klug selected two students to recognize at the local level.

Audrey and Merry were recognized at the City of Williston Commission meeting last night.

Audrey focused on stopping bullying and littering and emphasized the importance of being kind to others.

Merry focused on the important role of the community library, keeping Williston clean, and improving outdoor spaces.

After reading their essays aloud, Audrey and Merry were each presented with a certificate and a goodie basket filled with items from the Williston CVB and local businesses (the Strike Zone and Safari Trampoline).

Both were accompanied by their families.

Thank you for participating, Audrey and Merry! Keep writing and staying active in the Williston community!
