Clean Up Williston April 29th

The City of Williston is gearing up for its annual spring cleanup. The “I Will Keep Williston Clean Will You?” campaign will be held on Saturday, April 29, at 8:30 a.m. at Davidson Park.

The spring cleanup is a sign that warmer weather and the summer tourist season is coming. The cleanup is scheduled just in time for the annual Band Day Parade; Williston’s longest running festival. The 2-day event will begin May 12 with the Prelude Supper and Concert and continue May 13 with the 1-mile fun run, parade and park activities.

“This year Band Day is celebrating its 90th anniversary,” said Amy Krueger, executive director of the Williston Convention and Visitor Bureau. “We anticipate about 8,000 people will watch the parade and 6,000 will go to Harmon Park. The spring cleanup helps Williston put its best foot forward.”

The cleanup project will be stationed in the parking lot at Aafedt Stadium and Davidson Park. Volunteers can pick up supplies including gloves, garbage bags and safety vests from 8:30 - 11 a.m. A free BBQ for volunteers will begin at 11:30 a.m. Noble Drilling and Williston Economic Development will sponsor the burgers, chips and refreshments.

“Anything we can do to encourage people to help keep Williston clean is beneficial. When people notice our town is clean it is a big deal,” Williston Mayor Howard Klug.

The Clean Up Committee has devised a system to get garbage picked up in all areas of Williston. A map with cleaning zones allows businesses and organizations to select a specific area of Williston to pick up. The map may be accessed online at the Clean Williston website.

In addition, there will be roll-offs at Davidson Park to collect used residential tires, scrap metal, cardboard, wood and other items. North Dakota Recycling Services, Pacific Steel Recycling and the City of Williston will provide the roll-offs. The City of Williston’s free landfill day will be held the following Saturday, May 6 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
